Why Verification Matters

When UK businesses engage commercial contractors for plumbing, electrical, maintenance, or emergency work, they need confidence that the contractor is qualified, insured, and professionally managed. Merit Bold’s verification process is designed to provide that assurance.

What We Review

Trade Certifications

We check for relevant trade body registrations including Gas Safe (for gas work), NICEIC and NAPIT (for electrical work), and other applicable trade certifications. Contractors must provide evidence of valid registration.

Insurance Verification

Contractors are expected to hold appropriate public liability insurance and, where relevant, professional indemnity insurance. We request evidence of current cover before network approval.

Company Checks

We review business registration details, trading history, and commercial references where available. This helps us assess the legitimacy and operational maturity of each contractor.

Trade Compliance

Contractors must demonstrate compliance with relevant health and safety standards, building regulations, and industry codes of practice applicable to their trade.

Professionalism Standards

We assess communication quality, responsiveness, and commercial presentation. Contractors in our network are expected to operate to a professional standard when engaging with businesses.

Ongoing Review

Verification is not a one-time event. We periodically review contractor status, monitor feedback from businesses, and update records to maintain network quality.

Industry Standards We Reference

Gas Safe Register — The official register for gas engineers in the UK. All contractors performing gas work must be Gas Safe registered.
NICEIC — A leading certification body for the electrical contracting industry in the UK.
NAPIT — A government-approved membership scheme for the building services and fabric of buildings sectors.
Public Liability Insurance — Essential cover protecting businesses and the public against claims for injury or damage.
